Just bought a HP 7305 smart tank printer; during test I also printed a photo on glossy photo paper
Printed photo looks nice an glossy
only the black parts are looking dull
seems to me the printer is using the black cartridge and this isn't the same kind of inkt ?
I don't find a way to exclude the black inkt
some solutions ?
kind regards

Hi @Hfrbe
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re experiencing an issue with how the black ink is being used during photo printing on your HP Smart Tank 7305. The dull black parts could be due to the printer mixing black ink with the color inks, or it could be an issue with the printer’s settings when printing on glossy photo paper. Let’s go through some steps to help resolve this issue:
1. Check Print Settings
- When printing photos, the printer may use a combination of all color inks (cyan, magenta, yellow) to create the black or dark shades. If the black ink looks dull, it could be because the printer is primarily using color inks and not black ink as expected.
- In your print settings, make sure you’re selecting the right paper type (in this case, glossy photo paper). This will help the printer adjust its ink usage to optimize photo quality.
- Check the Print Quality settings and set it to Best. This ensures the printer uses the optimal amount of ink for high-quality photo prints.
2. Use Photo or Borderless Print Option
Some HP printers have specific settings for photo printing or borderless printing that prevent certain inks from being overused. Try selecting the Photo Print or Borderless option in the print dialog when printing on glossy photo paper.
Photo Paper Settings: Ensure that in the printer settings, you choose Glossy Photo Paper or Premium Glossy Paper. This helps the printer understand that the ink needs to be applied differently than it would on regular paper.
3. Check Ink Type
You’re right to suspect that the black ink may be different from the color inks in terms of formulation. For photo prints, printers often use special dyes that are optimized for photos. If the black ink is not designed for photo use, it can appear dull or out of place in the print.
Disable Black Ink: Unfortunately, many HP printers, including the Smart Tank 7305, do not offer an explicit setting to disable the black ink. However, if you want to avoid the black ink affecting the photo quality, you might need to adjust the Color Management settings through the printer software on your computer.
4. Use Photo Black Ink (If Available)
- Some printers have a specific photo black ink cartridge (separate from the regular black ink) for better results when printing photos. If your printer supports a photo black ink cartridge, it may improve the quality of your black tones in photos.
5. Try Printing from the Printer App or Software
- If you’re using a third-party app to print, try using HP’s Smart App or HP Print and Scan Doctor for troubleshooting and printing. These apps may automatically select the best settings for your printer and paper type.
6. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware
- Sometimes, updating the printer drivers or firmware can improve print quality or fix known issues related to photo printing. Go to HP’s support website and check if there’s any available update for your HP Smart Tank 7305.
7. Test Print with Color Adjustments
- If you’re still having issues, you could also try adjusting the color settings in the printer driver or photo editing software (like Adobe Photoshop or HP’s own software). Increasing the saturation of blacks or darkening the shadows can sometimes help compensate for this issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

sorry
but all these tips didn't solve the problem.
For me it's seems to be a problem with the black inkt and since it's a smart tank printer I don't see a solution for this
I just can't change the inkt from 1 moment to another
kind regards
