@lorie57, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thanks for reaching out.
I recommend taking the printer back to the place where you purchased it so they can check the issue with the ink cartridges. If the problem persists after that, feel free to contact me again—I'll be happy to help further.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

It was a replacement under warranty and they sent start-up cartridges with it. They would not snap in to the ink holder, so I assumed they were defective. I did a video with an HP representative, he could see the issue, and he was stumped too. He arranged to have a new set of cartridges sent, but they were regular ones, not start-up. I couldn'd even set up the printer without the START UP cartridges. Seems like the rep should have known that. However, I needed the to use the printer ASAP, so I thought I'd try the start-up cartridges even though they didn't click in or even appear to go in all the way like other ink cartridges do. They worked. Figured this is something someone else might like to know!!
