Hi @drew1226,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your printer shows a “Supply System Problem” error right after replacing cartridges. It disrupts your workflow, especially when you’re under pressure. Let’s walk through a few focused steps to get the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 back to printing without that error.

Step 1: Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Power off your printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the indicated cartridge (e.g., cyan, yellow).
  • Let it sit for about 1 minute.
  • Reinsert firmly until it clicks into place. Close the door and power on the printer.
These steps often resolve hiccups with cartridge detection.

Step 2: Clean Cartridge & Printer Contacts

  1. Remove the cartridge and lightly moisten a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with distilled (or bottled) water.
  2. Gently wipe the gold electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer; a speck can block the connection.
  3. Let everything air dry for 5 minutes before reinserting.
Make sure the contacts are completely dry, as moisture can exacerbate errors.

Step 3: Power Reset

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back and the wall.
  • Wait for 60 seconds to fully discharge the system.
  • Reconnect the cord, power it on, and check if the error clears.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

Step 5: Use a Different Cartridge

  • If available, try another brand-new genuine HP cartridge of the same color.
  • Even in new boxes, cartridges can be defective or have factory issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
