Help please, I am getting a "supply system problem" i just bought a news cartridge pack for $179 and replaced the yellow which is what was missing and i am now getting this error.

I do not want to waste that cartridge as these are very expensive. I have hard reset the printer, turned it off and on, cleaned and check the cartridge of any debris and I'm still get the message.

If i am to replace the cartridge can you send me a yellow? instead of wasting that money? and spending more on a new cartridge??

I need help asap

thanks

Viviana

Hi @Macuser4eva

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing everything you've already tried—and I truly understand how upsetting it is to face a “supply system problem” right after investing in a fresh cartridge. Let’s work through this together and aim to get your printer back to printing smoothly without wasting that yellow cartridge.

Step-by-step actions to resolve “Supply System Problem”

Power cycle with cartridge removed

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable.
  • Remove the yellow cartridge.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on without the cartridge.
  • Once it stabilizes, reinsert the yellow cartridge slowly and firmly.

Clean cartridge contacts and carriage

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge.
  • Also clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer’s cartridge slot.
  • Let everything dry for 5 minutes before reinserting.

Check for protective tape or packaging

  • Confirm that all plastic tabs, tape, or seals have been fully removed from the cartridge.
  • Even a small piece left behind can trigger a supply error.

Try reseating all cartridges

  • Remove all cartridges, not just yellow.
  • Reinsert them one by one, ensuring each clicks into place.
  • This helps the printer reinitialize its supply system.

Update printer firmware via HP App

  • Open the HP App for Windows
  • Select your printer > Settings > Printer Updates
  • Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Run Diagnose & Fix tool

  • Download and run Diagnose & Fix
  • This tool checks for supply errors and can reset internal flags that block cartridge recognition.

If the error persists after these steps, let me know the exact printer model and whether the cartridge is HP original or third-party. That will help tailor the next steps.

You're doing everything right so far—and I’m here to help you make the most of that cartridge.
