I received multiple cartridges of 67 XL ink for my printer as a gift. unbeknownst to me my printer will not recognize them because they are not HP brand. how am I able to bypass this and use cartridges

 These HP printers (with a firmware update) can use non-HP ink.  HP is not the only company that wants their own ink used. The last time I checked, Epson, Canon and Brother all do the same.

Some Laserjet printers can avoid these restrictions by not updating firmware.
My HP CM1415 takes any type of cheap toner. The cheaper the toner the uglier the printout.

 

Some printers you can disable cartridge protection, either on the console (if any) or using the EWS app.  Ask Microsoft's CoPilot how to do that on your printer.
