Hi @kearnsy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Streaks or lines on printed pages can be quite bothersome, and there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw. Here's what you can do:
Clean the Scanner Glass and ADF Rollers:
- Since the streaks are appearing on copies, the first step is to check and clean the scanner glass and the document feeder. Even a small speck of dust or debris can cause lines or streaks.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with a little water to wipe the glass. Be careful near the edges. Avoid using too much water.
- If your model has an automatic document feeder (ADF), open the ADF and clean the rollers and the small glass strip usually located to the left of the main scanner glass.
Check the Imaging Drum:
- Streaks can also be caused by issues with the imaging drum. Remove the toner cartridge and check if the drum shows any signs of damage or wear. If you see any obvious defects or toner buildup, it may need to be replaced.
- Handle the drum and toner cartridge carefully to avoid damaging or contaminating them.
Replace the Toner Cartridge:
- A defective toner cartridge can also cause streaks. If the toner is low or if the cartridge is old, consider replacing it. Sometimes, toner can clump or distribute unevenly, especially if it's nearing the end of its life.
Print a Cleaning Page:
- Your printer has a built-in process for cleaning which can help remove excess toner from the internal rollers.
- Access this feature through the printer’s control panel under the "Service" or "Maintenance" menu.
Run a Print Quality Troubleshooting Report:
- HP printers can generate a report that helps diagnose print quality issues. Print this report from the control panel and follow any additional recommendations it provides.
Firmware Update:
- Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve unexplained issues. Check the HP website for any available updates for your printer model.
Further Testing:
- If the problem persists, try making a photocopy with the lid up and a white sheet of paper placed on the scanner glass to cover the document being copied. If the streaks disappear, there might be something specifically wrong with how documents are fed through the ADF.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
