Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Your new HP Smart Tank Plus 651 should be printing smoothly, but if it’s moving at a snail’s pace, don’t worry—we’ll go through the steps to speed it up. Let’s get your prints out faster and frustration levels down!⚡
1. Check Printer Settings
- Open HP Smart App or Printer Preferences on your PC.
- Ensure the print quality is set to "Draft" or "Normal" instead of "Best."
- Disable Quiet Mode (it reduces noise but also slows printing).
2. Use the Correct Paper & Print Mode
- Use recommended HP paper to avoid feeding issues.
- Avoid borderless printing—it slows the process down.
3. Update or Reinstall the Printer Drivers
- Download and install the latest drivers from HP’s official website.
- If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the drivers completely.
4. Check Network & Connection Speed
- If using Wi-Fi, move the printer closer to the router.
- If using USB, try a different port or cable.
- Use a wired connection (Ethernet) for faster data transfer.

5. Cancel Stuck Print Jobs
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the printer > See what’s printing > Cancel all jobs.
- Restart the printer and try printing again.
6. Restart the Printer & Spooler Service
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait 60 seconds.
- Restart your PC.
- Open Run (Win + R) > Type "services.msc" > Find "Print Spooler".
- Right-click Print Spooler > Restart.
7. Check Ink Levels & Printhead
- Low ink or clogged printheads can slow printing.
- Use HP Smart App to check ink levels.
- Clean the printheads if necessary.
8. Reduce Print File Size
- Large PDFs or high-res images can slow printing.
- Convert large files to smaller PDFs or lower-resolution images.
9. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 5 minutes, and restart it.
10. Firmware Update
- Check for firmware updates in HP Smart App or the HP website.
Hopefully, your printer is now speedier than a caffeinated cheetah. If it’s still slow, we might be looking at a hardware issue—at which point, let me know how it goes! 🚀
