Hello

i bought the printer so i could print canvas photos for the current and next year graduation for my kids. I love the looks when it works

 I’ve had it 2 months

I cannot ever get rid of all of the lines. I’ve done  all 3 levels to clean it and after about 6 different papers I never got rid of all of them.

Then any canvas I had would be fine until it was fed to leave after printed.. it doesn’t make it between the last section and after printed, it will crunch up just inside that front door. Now the canvas does well and so does cardstock. The regular plain doesn’t make it.

I’ve cleaned it and used can of air, etc. I’m now thinking I got a defective unit. I’m going to contact hp today, but I’d this a common issue?

@CLU3, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it must be to face persistent print quality issues and paper feed problems, especially when you're trying to print cherished canvas photos for your kids' graduations. Let's work together to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e printing beautifully again.

Issue 1: Persistent Lines Despite Cleaning

It sounds like you're seeing horizontal lines or banding even after running all three cleaning levels. Here are some steps to help resolve this:

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • This will help identify which color or printhead is causing the issue.

Align the Printhead:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
  • Misalignment can cause lines or blurry prints.

Check Paper Type Settings:

  • Ensure the paper type selected in the printer settings matches the actual paper loaded.
  • Mismatched settings can cause ink to be applied incorrectly.

Use HP Genuine Ink and Recommended Paper:

  • Non-HP ink or incompatible paper can lead to poor results.
  • For canvas printing, make sure the media is supported and loaded correctly.

Update Firmware and Drivers:

Issue 2: Canvas or Cardstock Feeds Fine, But Plain Paper Jams

This sounds like a paper path or roller issue, especially if the paper crumples near the front door.

Try the following:

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the front access door and gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let them dry completely before closing the door and powering the printer back on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Look inside the paper path for any debris or torn paper bits that might be causing jams.

Use High-Quality Plain Paper:

  • Low-quality or damp paper can cause feeding issues.
  • Try using HP-branded plain paper to test.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer while it's on, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Paper Advance Calibration:

  • Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Calibrate Paper Feed.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
