I cleared out the paper when it jammed, but the printer is still showing Error code 06.
I followed several different instructions, including powering off, holding down the power button to discharge any remaining charge, and plugging it back into a wall outlet instead of a surge suppressor. Nothing has worked to clear the code.
I tried uninstalling the printer drivers, but when I reinstalled the software the app can't find the printer. I fear I may have messed up my ability to do a factory reset on the machine.
What should I do next?

Hi @Charles188,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Error code 06 on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w typically indicates a paper jam issue, but since you've already cleared the jam and the error persists, it might be related to a sensor issue or other internal problems. Here are some additional steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Check for Small Paper Pieces:
- Ensure no small pieces of paper or debris are left inside the printer. Use a flashlight to inspect all areas, including the input and output trays, the toner cartridge area, and the paper path.
Clean the Rollers:
- Clean the paper feed rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. This can help if dust or paper residue is causing sensor issues.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Re-seat the Toner Cartridge:
- Open the printer and remove the toner cartridge.
- Check for any obstructions or debris in the toner compartment.
- Reinsert the toner cartridge and ensure it is properly seated.
Factory Reset
If the issue persists, performing a factory reset might help. Since you mentioned concerns about the factory reset, here are the steps to attempt a factory reset on the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w:
- Restore Factory Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, press and hold the Cancel button (the red X) and the Wireless button simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
- The printer should reboot and restore factory settings.
Reinstalling Drivers
If the printer is still not detected by your software after resetting:
Uninstall Previous Drivers:
- Go to the Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w and select "Remove device."
- Go to Programs and Features and uninstall any HP printer software.
Download and Install Latest Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download the latest drivers and software for your operating system.
- Install the drivers and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer.
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure your printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network.
- Use the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to connect to your network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
