Hi @Debsuki,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The E3 error on your HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One typically indicates a carriage jam, even if no visible paper jam is present. This can sometimes be caused by:
- Obstructions in the carriage path (like bits of paper or ink buildup),
- Misaligned printhead cover,
- Or a stalled carriage motor.
🔧 Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait at least 60 seconds before proceeding.
- Wait at least 60 seconds before proceeding.
- Open the front access door and check the carriage path:
- Gently move the carriage (the part that holds the ink tanks) left and right.
- Remove any bits of paper, debris, or ink buildup.
- Ensure the printhead cover is fully closed and latched.
- Check the paper path:
- Remove paper from the input and output trays.
- Open the rear access door or cleanout door (if available) and check for any jammed paper or foreign objects.
- Reset the printer:
- Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
- Turn it on and check if the error clears.
- Clean the paper rollers:
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Rotate the rollers manually to clean them thoroughly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
