After checking and double checking that my envelope size is correct (#10) and having tier one tech support check and unable to resolve I've almost come to the conclusion that it may be a mechanical issue.  When I try and print an envelope using MS WORD, then mailings-envelops, all I hear is the mechanical sound of the pick up mechanism (rollers?) trying to pick up the envelope for about 15-20 seconds and then quit, no envelope.  If I then changed the tray to regular paper and try and print the same envelope information, it prints out the envelope (different rollers?) with the correct information on the paper as if it was an envelope.

You are welcome.

Envelopes are funny things -- the software programs to create envelopes might be specific to the task or something the app or software will do if you poke at it hard enough.  I've tried a number of of methods -- most work OK but some are not worth the effort.  Smiling.

Manual "envelope" document should work if the Tray and Paper Settings are a match to the settings in Word.

So, can't explain that.

Tray and Paper settings are generally the magic elixir.

All good then.

Welcome to the HP Community --

Sure, The underlying cause of the problem might be a mechanical failure.

These are fairly robust printers -- anything is possible.

What else?

Might be dirt, grime, "something" on the printer rollers or somewhere along the pickup or travel path.  Clean the printer.  Reference:  Paper Jam Error >  Pay attention to Steps 4 and 5

Might be that the Full Feature Software needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled.  See Section (below) References / Resources)

Might be that odd error that causes Word > Mailings > Envelopes to suddenly believe that a simple #10 envelope is not a standard supported envelope size.

If Word-is-Weird

Open the printer drawer - lift and replace the stack of envelopes - close the drawer

Next,

Quickly check the printer front panel - "Modify" / edit the paper size & type to the correct #10 Envelope

OR

Open EWS - double check that the Paper Size & Type are correctly set - Tray and Paper

Open Word > Mailings > Envelopes

Set up your envelope with the destination and return addresses

In Print Options, treat the envelope as if it is a "custom size":

Select Size Custom and enter the correct dimensions for the envelope

Double check the fonts, colors, other options

When ready, try to print the envelope...

Example - EWS - Tray and Paper

Note that your printer's single tray settings will be different from the example

============================

Printer Software

In many cases, particularly if you have been able to get the preliminary network connection working, you can finalize the setup by installing the Full Feature Software.

Relevant to supported versions of Windows

If you have not done so, consider

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

If the full driver printer software is (already) installed but not working,

  • Uninstall any printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and sign in.

Next,

  • Check (for the Printer) in Devices and Printers  > If found, Right-Click Printer and Remove -- If any changes are made, that is, you remove anything, Restart the computer and sign in.I

Next,

  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information - Download  <<<

Installation

  • Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Many thanks for the help and tips for my problem, I tried them all but nothing helped, still no printing of the #10 envelopes.

What I did then was to try and print the envelops using my HP laptop and it worked.  I then tried again on my HP desktop and it started printing the 10's successfully, why, I don't know as both pc's had the same printing options.  What the telephone company lingo for this happening is called, "CCWT," or came clear while testing.
