My Envy Photo 7855 used to print cardstock but now only prints the bottom 2/3 of the page starting at the very top of the page. Is there any way to fix this or is this how it will be from now on and I am forced to buy a new printer? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi @wallfj
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble printing cardstock on your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer. The issue you're describing, where only the bottom 2/3 of the page prints, suggests a potential problem with either the paper feed mechanism, the settings, or an issue with the printer’s firmware or driver. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve this without needing to buy a new printer.
Step 1: Check the Paper Type and Size Settings
Since your printer used to print on cardstock but no longer prints correctly, it’s possible that the printer settings were changed, or the printer is not set to print on thick paper like cardstock.
- Check Paper Type in Printer Settings:
- Open the print dialog on your computer (e.g., go to File > Print in any application).
- Select your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer.
- Click on Printer Properties or Preferences (depending on the application).
- Make sure you’ve selected the correct paper type (e.g., Cardstock or Heavyweight Paper).
- Also, check that the paper size is set to the correct size (usually Letter or A4 for most cardstock).
- Check the Printer’s Paper Tray Settings:
- Load the cardstock correctly into the rear paper tray (the one specifically designed for thicker paper). Avoid loading cardstock in the regular paper tray as it might not feed properly.
- Ensure that the paper guides are adjusted to fit the cardstock and aren’t too loose, as improper alignment could cause feeding issues.
Step 2: Try Printing a Test Page
Once you've confirmed the paper type and size settings are correct, try printing a test page or a document on normal paper first. If it prints correctly on regular paper, the issue may specifically relate to the cardstock printing process.
- Test on regular paper first: Print a simple document (e.g., a Word document or an image) on regular paper to see if the printer prints it correctly.
- If this works fine but cardstock continues to print only part of the page, there might be an issue with thick paper handling.
Step 3: Paper Feed Mechanism and Rollers
The paper feed mechanism could be a culprit, especially if the printer has trouble pulling thicker paper like cardstock.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
- Over time, paper feed rollers can accumulate dust, dirt, or debris, leading to improper paper handling.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the paper tray area and inspect the rollers (usually located inside the printer near the paper tray).
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the rollers. Be careful not to damage the rollers.
- Let the rollers dry completely before testing.
Inspect Paper Path:
- Manually check the paper path for any obstruction. Sometimes small pieces of paper or debris can cause the printer to misfeed.
- If you notice any obstructions, remove them carefully.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Sounded like great advice but didn't seem to work. I believe this printer is not rated to print on cardstock despite doing so for several years. I am not going to buy a new printer so I will have to live with the printer for now. Thanks for trying!
