I have spent about 3 hours trying to resolve this issue before I discovered a workaround.
(1) Because paper could not feed, but the sensors can see that there is a sheet or two of paper loaded, there has been a persistent false paper jam error. I have done all the steps recommended to resolve this (false) paper jam error.
(2) I looked at the feed pickup roller with a flashlight while printer attempted to print and I noticed that the bumper (behind paper in feed tray) that is supposed to ensure that the paper touches the roller did not push forward far enough to bring paper in contact with the pickup roller. It seems that it needs to be adjusted / calibrated to push paper closer to the feed roller because the closest it approaches is still 1/8 inch (3 mm) away from the roller.
(3) The Workaround: When over 15 sheets of paper are loaded in the feeder, it feeds and prints like it is supposed to. It just can't print unless there are over 15 pages in the paper feed tray.
QUESTION: Is there a spring I can replace or an adjustment that can be made so that it will feed when there are less than 15 sheets in the feeder? This is a spatial / mechanical issue that is obviously out of specified limits.
