Every time I try to print, the paper jams and it doesn’t go through. I thoroughly checked that there’s no other paper or thing  stuck in the machine causing it to jam and still it keeps happening. The weird part is that when I copy a paper to print right from the printer it works and it doesn’t get stuck. It’s only when I try to print anything else from my Mac or from my phone. Also my warranty just expired in June:/

Hi @Loly3

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for the details. Since your HP printer jams only when printing from your Mac or phone, but works fine when copying directly from the printer, it points to a software or driver-level miscommunication rather than a mechanical fault.

Here’s a structured fix:

Root Cause Possibilities

  • Incorrect paper size or type settings in the print dialog from Mac or mobile.
  • Driver mismatch or outdated firmware causing improper feed commands.
  • Print job corruption from certain apps or file types.
  • AirPrint or HP Smart misconfiguration on mobile.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Check Paper Settings on Mac and Phone

  • On Mac:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
    • Select your printer > Options & Supplies > Driver
    • Ensure paper size matches what’s loaded (e.g., A4 vs Letter).
  • On iPhone:
    • In the print preview, tap Options and confirm paper type and layout.

2. Reset the Print System on Mac

This clears any corrupted queues or misconfigured drivers:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  • Right-click in the printer list and choose “Reset printing system”
  • Re-add your printer manually.

3. Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Visit HP Software & Driver Downloads
  • Enter your printer model and install the latest firmware and Mac drivers.
  • On iPhone, update the HP Smart app from the App Store.

4. Try Printing from HP App

  • Open HP Smart on Mac or iPhone.
  • Print a test document from within the app.
  • If it works, the issue may be with third-party apps or AirPrint.

5. Disable Duplex or Advanced Print Features

Some advanced settings can trigger jams:

  • In the print dialog, disable duplex printing, borderless, or scaling.
  • Try printing a simple PDF or text file.

Diagnostic Test

Try printing the same document:

  • From Mac (via HP App)
  • From iPhone (via AirPrint)
  • From a Windows PC (if available)

Compare results. If only Mac/iPhone fail, it’s likely a driver or app-level issue.

Let me know your printer model and macOS version, and I’ll tailor the next steps if needed.
