I pulled out the tray it fell and a black part came off tray or printer front cover and it broke and I need to identify part. I have a LaserJet Pro M426fdw

It mounts on the right side of the tray behind the front panel. There is a spring as well, note the routing in the picture. Make sure that the black part is fully seated in the slot or you can break it while re-attaching the front. When attaching the front, engage the upper tabs in the slots and then rotate the bottom into place.

Be careful when putting the front back on. You need to make sure that the nylon "C" that activates the paper height indicator has the metal paper tray in the middle of the "C". Easiest way is to release the metal tray by pressing the nylon stopper on each side and allowing the metal part of the tray to rise up.

Thank you for confirming this information. I still need to replace the part, do you know how to identify the part, and if I can reorder a new one, and how i would go about to re-order a new one?

So far thank goodness, the printer is still printing, do I even need this part to print, so sooner or later i will see problems with printing? Thanks again for your time and help with this information and sharing your knowledge.

You will likely have to replace the whole tray as smaller components are not likely available. You can check HP PartSurfer to confirm that.
