I have a Laserjet M209dw printer. I had a very small paper jam this morning. I opened it up and gently removed the paper and closed it to resume printing. It says there is a jam but there isn't. I have taken the entire thing apart, reset it, and cleaned the rollers like it says to.
The printer still says that there is a paper jam. I am at a loss as to what to do. This is the second time I have had this issue with the M209dw. It is not under warranty any longer. Any advice would be appreciated.

@Ek213, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding False Paper Jam in a LaserJet M209dw Printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot a false paper jam issue with your HP LaserJet M209dw printer:
Inspect the Paper Path
- Even if you've already removed the jammed paper, double-check the entire paper path for any tiny scraps of paper or other obstructions.
- Use a flashlight to see if there are any small pieces of paper stuck in the rollers or the paper feed mechanism.
Clean the Sensors
- The paper jam error might be due to dirty or obstructed paper sensors. It's often overlooked but can cause false paper jam indications.
- Use a can of compressed air to gently blow out any dust or debris from the sensors.
Roller Inspection and Cleaning
- Clean the paper rollers thoroughly. Often, dust or debris can cause the sensors to trigger a paper jam error.
- If the rollers are worn out, consider replacing them.
Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer off and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes clear false error messages.
Firmware Update
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is updated to the latest version. Firmware updates can fix various bugs and issues, including false paper jam errors.
- You can check for updates on the HP support website for your specific printer model.
Manual Inspection
- Open all accessible doors and panels on the printer (including the front and rear) and check manually if there is any tiny scrap stuck somewhere.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately none of that fixed the issue. I am still receiving the paper jam notification even though I am not seeing any paper anywhere. I even got compressed air to clean out the crevices.

@Ek213, Thanks for trying all those steps — I know how frustrating this can be, especially when nothing seems to be visibly wrong.
At this point, the issue might be with the internal paper sensor being stuck or malfunctioning. Sometimes, even after a jam is cleared, the sensor doesn't reset properly. Here's what you can try next:
1. Open the toner access door and gently remove the toner cartridge. Behind it, look for the small plastic flag or lever (usually black) that acts as a sensor.
2. Gently move it back and forth to ensure it's not stuck or misaligned.
3. Reinstall everything and power cycle the printer again.
If the sensor is faulty or permanently stuck, it may require a repair, but this check often helps resolve false jam errors.
Let me know how it goes!
