Hello,

I recently bought an HP Smart Tank 7602 All In One at Staples.

There is no slide adjuster to take-up the slack in the paper tray.

Every other printer I've ever used has a slider.  Every other brand in Staples right now has that slider, including all the HP Laser printers.

The problem is:

1.  There is nothing to hold the paper towards the paper pick-up area.  Even if I slide the stack of paper all the way in when I install it - it can slide rearwards when I push the paper tray in.  That especially happens when I'm down to a few sheets of paper.

2.  If the paper is stacked towards the rear of the tray - it doesn't recognize it and reads "Tray Empty."   It even does this with the tray half full of paper.

Yes.  I have the paper tray collapsed all the way, as far as it can mechanically go, to set it at 8.5 x 11 paper.  I even went back to Staples to show there tech rep on there store model.  He doesn't understand why the adjuster is missing either.  The gray button you see in the tray is:  You squeeze it when you want to open the tray to 8.5 x 14.  That is not the slack adjuster.

This is ridiculous.  How can HP forget to design-in a paper size adjustment slider?  Or is this a money saving cost cut?  Either way, HP needs to include the slider that takes-up the slack in the paper tray, and send an updated paper tray to all it's customers.

Sincerely,

Rick

Hi @ricks3,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 7602 All-In-One printer's paper tray. While I don't work directly for HP, I can offer some suggestions to address the issue:

Immediate Solutions:

Verify Proper Tray Assembly: Ensure that the paper tray is assembled correctly. Sometimes, what appears to be missing might be a component not properly set up during manufacturing or unpacking. If possible, compare your tray with the store model closely.

Temporary Workarounds:

  • Use a Spacer: Place a cardboard or plastic shim at the rear of the paper stack to prevent sliding. This won't fix the root issue but can help ensure consistent paper alignment.
  • Paper Management: Keep the paper tray loaded with a larger stack of paper to minimize the chances of sheets sliding around.

Check for Upgraded Accessories: Inquire with HP if they offer an alternate paper tray or adjustment mechanism for this model. Sometimes, printer models are revised post-launch to address such issues.

Hi Gaya,

Thank you for responding.  I am hoping someone that works for HP reads this and can send me a proper tray that has the paper slack adjuster.  This is clearly a massive oversight on their behalf.
