HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently ran into the issue of my printer repeatedly jamming when I requested 20 copies of a word document be printed. The settings I had enable was the 2-side printing flipping on long end, Black and white. The paper would feed just fine until it got to the feed that should pull it out of the printer. The ink cartridge kept ripping the paper and causing a paper jam. I would repeatedly have to take the paper out of the printer. I also unplugged the printer while unjamming it. This resulted in me having to print the alignment page and scan it. The printer was able to print this just fine. When I switched to printing another file for just one copy it worked. I then tried to print 20 copies again and it jammed. So then I tried to print one copy single sided. This worked just fine. I then moved back to my original settings and only requested one copy. This worked just fine. I then requested it print 7 copies and it printed one page before jamming similar to the way previously described. I then had to do single copy request to get the desired number of copies. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Hi @Jholdiman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 9018E is having trouble handling larger print jobs, especially when printing multiple copies with double-sided settings. Here are some possible reasons for the paper jams and some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Possible Causes:

  1. Paper Type and Quality: Ensure that you are using paper that meets the printer's specifications. Poor quality or incompatible paper can lead to jams.
  2. Overheating or Printer Load: Printing many copies in a row can cause the printer to overheat, leading to performance issues.
  3. Incorrect Paper Size/Type Settings: If the printer settings do not match the paper loaded, it can lead to jams.
  4. Worn or Dirty Rollers: The rollers that feed the paper might be dirty or worn out, causing them to slip or grip improperly.
  5. Driver or Firmware Issues: Outdated drivers or firmware can affect printing performance.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Use Compatible Paper: Make sure you are using paper recommended for your printer, typically 20 lb or 24 lb paper for general use.
  2. Check for Obstructions: Open the printer and check for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the jams.
  3. Clean the Rollers:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to wipe the rollers.
    • Allow the rollers to dry completely before plugging the printer back in.
  4. Update Drivers and Firmware:
    • Go to the HP Support website to check for the latest drivers and firmware updates for your printer model.
  5. Reduce Print Load: If the printer struggles with larger jobs, try breaking down the job into smaller batches (e.g., printing 5 copies at a time).
  6. Check Settings: Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer's properties match the actual paper loaded.
  7. Print a Test Page: After trying the above steps, print a test page to ensure everything is functioning properly.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the paper jam issue and improve the performance of your HP OfficeJet 9018E when printing multiple copies.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
