Hi @Mightyeve,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 5540 printer is reporting a paper jam but you cannot find any paper stuck inside, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Turn Off the Printer: Completely power off your printer by unplugging it from the power source.
- Inspect the Paper Path: Open the printer's front and rear access doors (if applicable) and carefully inspect the paper path. Look for any shreds of paper, foreign objects, or even small pieces that might be triggering the paper jam sensor.
- Clear Any Obstructions: Using a flashlight, check inside the printer for any obstructions that might be causing the issue. Sometimes, even a small piece of paper or debris can trigger a false paper jam alert.
- Reset the Printer: After ensuring there are no obstructions, plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on. Sometimes, resetting the printer can clear false error messages.
- Check Paper Tray Alignment: Make sure that the paper in the tray is aligned properly and not exceeding the maximum capacity. Improperly aligned paper or overfilled trays can cause feeding issues.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for false paper jam errors.
These steps should help you troubleshoot and resolve the paper jam issue with your HP Envy 5540 printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
