I am trying to print (double sized) on a piece of cardstock 6x8 inches. In word I set the document size to 6x8 inches and margins of 1/2 inch on all sides. When I go to print, settings on the print screen in word show the correct document size as well as the margins. When I add my paper to the officejet 4650, I can't select any of the presets for paper size. It doesn't print correctly.  How can I get it to print the correct size? My paper is in the tray with the slides pulled up to hold it in place.

When I print envelopes with a similar set up (only difference is I selected the envelope size in word, but not on the printer), and they print fine. Any ideas how I can fix this?  Thank you!

Printing on custom-sized paper like 6x8 inches with the HP OfficeJet 4650 can be a bit tricky, especially if the printer settings and the document settings in Word don’t align perfectly. Here’s a detailed guide to ensure your custom-sized prints come out correctly:

1. Configure Custom Paper Size in Printer Settings

You need to make sure that your printer settings are configured for custom paper sizes. Here’s how you can do it:

For Windows:

Open Printer Properties:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP OfficeJet 4650 and select Printing preferences or Printer properties.

Create a Custom Paper Size:

  • Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
  • Click on Advanced.
  • Under Paper Size, look for a drop-down menu or a button labeled Custom.
  • Set your custom paper size (6x8 inches) and save it.

Apply Settings:

  • Click OK to save your changes.
  • Set this custom size as your default paper size if needed.

For macOS:

Open Printer Settings:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet 4650 from the list.

Create a Custom Paper Size:

  • Click Options & Supplies.
  • Go to the Driver tab or similar settings.
  • Find an option to manage custom paper sizes and set your 6x8 inches size.

Save and Apply:

  • Save the custom size and set it for your print job.

2. Adjust Print Settings in Word

Make sure that the settings in Word match the custom size you have configured:

Set Document Size:

  • Open your document in Word.
  • Go to Layout > Size > More Paper Sizes.
  • Set the paper size to 6x8 inches.

Set Margins:

  • Go to Layout > Margins and set all margins to 1/2 inch.

Check Print Settings:

  • Go to File > Print.
  • Ensure that the selected paper size matches your custom 6x8 inches size.
  • Check if there is a setting to select the paper source. Ensure it’s set to the tray where your custom-sized paper is loaded.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you.  I get to this step:

  • Under Paper Size, look for a drop-down menu or a button labeled Custom.

and in my drop down menu I don't have the option to custom any sizes. Also I don't have a custom label button.

I did find a work around. I just set my paper to letter size. Then in word I did custom margins, adding 1.7in to both right and left sides and then adding a 2.5 inch margin at the bottom. When I use the paper slides and my small paper is in the middle of the printer paper feeder, it prints perfectly.

Thank you for your help!
