I have a "document feeder jam" message. I cleared the paper jam by pulling the paper out (not the way HP suggests). I have tried all the suggestions that the virtual assistant had to offer.  The printer will print from the computer but I can't just make a copy due to the message.

If you removed the paper the wrong way it is possible that you have jammed or damaged one of the flags and now the printer is detecting a jam even though there is not one. Examine what you can of the paper path. You can also try forcing a piece of stiffer card stock through the adf path, only in the direction of normal paper travel to hopefully reset the flag. Typically a piece of card about 2 inches wide is easier to work with, you will just have to floss several times to cover the entire width of the adf.
