HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows XP

Bought new HP Officejet Pro 6978 to replace HP Officejet 6968 because it says on the box that it works with 32 bit XP OS which I use.  No disk came with product and when I tried HP123 to download driver and software it rudely says that HP will no longer install products to XP OS.   Chat said I should call someone they called a "friend" and gave me a phone number that does not work.   Willing to pay for XP install disk and software to avoid bother of return.  contact me at [personal information removed]- I am disabled 9/11 Ground Zero rescuer who does not want to lose all the expensive XP softare I paid full list for.   Thanks

Hello,

Unfortunately, HP does not deliver installation CD-DVD with their printers anymore, this is due to the fact that dematerialization has been going on for several years. So the only way to install your printer is to download the complete version of the drivers and software to install it.

Please use the HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Full Feature Software and Drivers to install your printer.

If with the full version of the software and driver, you cannot install your printer, please follow the instructions of the following HP link: HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver).

In case of need, don't hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Just to expand, the XP operating system is no longer supported and therefore there are no drivers available for it from HP. You may find that connecting the printer and checking windows updates might locate a driver that will work but you will not get full function from your printer in most cases.

I installed the 161 meg download and it extracted but did  not show up in printers- control panel, or as a driver in windows auto install.  I see printer in device manager with a yellow slash but it says device is working but it can not print test page or be seen.  Printer is connected by USB and Ethernet to DSL modem and also connected wireless.
