We have been using our 5258 for a few years now, with very few problems. This past summer my computer started seeing it as offline and nothing I do will make them connect. I have tried the Print and Scan Doctor, HP Smart, as well as the EasyStart and they all end up with the same outcome, 'offline'. The printer also won't connect to the HP servers for Instant Ink.
I went through the steps of setting the printer up on wifi. I removed the printer and reinstalled it. Tried reinstalling it. The printer used to show up as offline, now that I have removed it the printer just doesn't show up. I know the printer works, because I can print from my iPhone, just not from any of our computers.
The only thing that has changed this year is that we have a new network using Eero routers. I am kind of wondering if the printer is just too old for this new setup. I don't know what else to do, other than buy a new non-hp printer. Any ideas?

Hi @icurate,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet 5258 printer. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the "offline" issue on your computers:
Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure the printer is powered on and not displaying any error messages on its control panel.
Restart Your Devices:
- Restart your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
Printer Status:
- On your computer, go to the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac), and open the "Devices and Printers" (Windows) or "Printers & Scanners" (Mac) section.
- Check if your HP OfficeJet 5258 is listed. If it's listed as "offline," right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on it and select "Use Printer Online" (Windows) or "Open Print Queue" (Mac). This might bring it back online.
Printer Queue:
- Sometimes, a print job that got stuck in the queue can cause offline issues. Clear the print queue by canceling all pending print jobs.
Reinstall Printer Driver:
- Uninstall the printer driver from your computer and then reinstall it. You can download the latest driver from the HP website.
Firewall/Antivirus Software:
- Check if your firewall or antivirus software is blocking the printer's communication with your computer. You may need to add the printer to the exceptions or temporarily disable these security programs to test if they are the cause of the issue.
Router and Network Settings:
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is functioning correctly, and there are no connectivity issues with your router.
- Try restarting your router to refresh the network connections.
HP Instant Ink Servers:
- To address the issue of the printer not connecting to HP servers for Instant Ink, make sure your printer is connected to the internet and that it has the correct date and time settings. You may also need to check your printer's Instant Ink subscription status in the HP Smart app or on the HP website.
Remember to restart your computer after making any changes to settings or reinstalling the printer driver. Additionally, it's essential to ensure that your computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I appreciate your effort, but these are all on the hp website or in the tools and none of them work. It's not a computer issue, because our Apple products are able to see and print to it. Also, the fact that the printer itself won't connect to HP seems like a red flag that the printer is just outdated. I did try moving the printer into the same room as my computer, just to ensure that it is communicating through the same router (we have a mesh wifi), and that made no difference. Of course, while I was troubleshooting why my PC doesn't see it, my wife printed to it just fine from her MacBook.
I'll print to it with my iPhone and Macbook until it runs out of ink and then look into a replacement.
