HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Upgraded my OfficeJet 6960 with latest firmware, then suddenly my Magenta cartridge is designated as faulty.  Weird, it's an HP one.  So I pull out a brand new HP cartridge from a pack - same problem, printer thinks it's faulty.

Cannot be a coincidence that it happened immediately following a firmware update.

Any ideas?

Hi @GDaley,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your printer showing ink cartridge error. Not to worry I will help you to resolve the issue.
Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain on the printer.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

If the issue still persists, suggest you follow the steps from this video link to fix the issue. (Click on the Word link to open the web page).

I hope this helps.
