Microsoft Windows 11

I bought the printer sometime last year. Used 3rd party ink right away. Used multiple cartridges just fine. I don't believe I signed up for HP+. (I never had an HP acct, I only just signed up now to be able to post this question.) Then randomly I am trying to replace used up ink carts and I get the non-HP ink cartridge error, and now I can't use the printer.

I see that HP introduced a firmware upgrade that locked out 3rd party carts. This is a ridiculous and terrible policy. I want to roll back the firmware update to continue using 3rd party ink.

FYI: I can't add my printer as one of "my products" on this website. For some reason the Serial number is not recognized.

Side note: I also think this is a good time for everyone to recognize that HP is acting in a very anti-customer manner and they should consider buying from a different manufacturer. I see that Epson is big into their Eco-tank printers which use ink bottles to refill and should avoid any of this nonsense of blocking of 3rd party ink.

I know this has made me unlikely to ever purchase an HP printer again.

Hi @CliftonH ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

I've used many inks from the 3rd party ink supplier and had no issues. The issues developed after the firmware "upgrade" that was forced on me by HP.

How do I rollback the firmware upgrade and disable any further firmware upgrades for the printer so I can use the ink I want to?
