HI @GFH-75,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect your HP OfficeJet 8028e (or similar printer model) to a MacBook Air using a USB cable without Wi-Fi, follow these steps:
1. Connect the Printer to Your MacBook Air
- USB Cable Connection:
- Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on your printer.
- Plug the other end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your MacBook Air. If your MacBook Air only has USB-C ports, use a USB-C to USB adapter.
2. Install Printer Drivers
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model (OfficeJet 8028e) and select your operating system (macOS).
- Download and install the full feature driver or basic driver as recommended.
3. Add the Printer to Your MacBook Air
System Preferences:
- Open System Preferences from the Apple menu () or the Dock.
- Click on Printers & Scanners.
Add the Printer:
- In the Printers & Scanners window, click the + button to add a new printer.
- Your printer should appear in the list of available printers. Select your HP OfficeJet 8028e.
- Follow the prompts to complete the setup. If macOS asks you to install any additional software, agree to it.
4. Set the Printer as Default (Optional)
- Default Printer:
- In Printers & Scanners, right-click or Control-click on your HP OfficeJet 8028e in the list of printers.
- Select Set as default printer from the context menu.
5. Print a Test Page
- Print Test Page:
- Open any document or image on your MacBook Air.
- Go to File > Print and select your HP OfficeJet 8028e from the list of printers.
- Print a test page to ensure the printer is working correctly.
Troubleshooting
Printer Not Recognized:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected at both ends.
- Try a different USB port on your MacBook Air.
- Restart both your printer and your MacBook Air.
Driver Issues:
- Make sure you have downloaded the correct drivers for your printer model and macOS version.
- Uninstall any existing HP printer software from your Mac and reinstall the drivers.
Printer Queue Issues:
- Clear any stuck print jobs in the printer queue. In Printers & Scanners, select your printer, click Open Print Queue, and clear any pending jobs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
