HP 8710 All-In-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer has started acting differently than normal.

Normal behavior is that it is silent unless it has been called upon for a print job.

Now it is quiet most of the time, but occasionally tries to start up like getting prepared for a print job, then it falls silent until called upon to actually do something.

Have I mucked up a SW setting or service?

I tried updating the FW, but the utility will not update since my firmware is the latest version.

I recently needed to update my PC Win10 OS due to other problems and tried to reinstall the print app - though unsuccessfully - on one of the PC's connected to the printer.  I have now worked around that and printing is ok.  What is left is the annoying occasional start-up behavior.

I would appreciate whatever advice you can give me to get it back to quiet operation.

Thanks, Eric

@edickes Here's a few things you can do to resolve the issue:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have completed the power disconnection/reconnection.  Problem still exists.

I checked for updates - I have the most current FW installed and no update is available.  FW: WBP2CN2006BR  ver: 0.  Problem still exists.

Do you have another suggestion?  Thanks, Eric

@edickes If you've done all that, yet the issue persists, it looks like it's a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
