Hi. I recently got this Officejet 8720 at a thrift store. I want to register for instant ink but the printer states it has already been registered. I have hard reset (Semi-Full Reset) the printer but still won’t let me add it. How do I remove it from an unknown account?

Hi @ejgjunk ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to remove your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 from an unknown account and register it for Instant Ink, follow these steps:
1. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings (Full Reset)
Since a semi-full reset didn’t work, a full factory reset may help. This will erase any existing settings, including the registration information. Here's how:
- On the printer's control panel:
- Go to the Home screen.
- Tap Setup (gear icon).
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Restore Defaults.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the prompts to confirm and reset.
This should completely erase all previous registrations and settings on the printer.
2. Re-register the Printer for Instant Ink Enrolling in HP Instant Ink
After resetting the printer, you can try to register it again for HP Instant Ink:
- Go to HP Instant Ink.
- Sign in with your HP account or create a new one if you don’t have one.
- Add your printer using the printer’s serial number (located on the printer’s label or in the printer's settings under About).
- Follow the prompts to set up Instant Ink.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
