My Deskjet 970 CSE has been a Workhorse for years! 😊

Outside of paper always jamming when spits out the copy, I have no issues..

Except, yesterday when.....

 

I got a new black cartridge, installed it and I'm printing blanks.

I noticed that the color cartridge is out of ink.

 

My question is:

Does the color cartridge have to have some ink remaining in order for the printer to print out black ink only copies?

I do not recall this ever being an issue...

HP Recommended

The printer will print black if the color ink cartridge is empty. If you swipe the bottom part of the black ink cartridge on a paper tissue does it leave a black trace?
