HP OfficeJet Pro 9020
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new OfficeJet Pro 9020 suddenly started to randomly print a blank page with a single symbol on it . Specifically a Top Half Integral ⌠ and every once in a while a few other symbols but never more than 3 on a page. It usually happens 2 - 10 minutes after printing a page. other than that the printer works fine.
Anyone have any idea what may be the cause?

My problem was independent of any application.

I uninstalled the printer and reconnected it with a USB cable.

I updated the firmware

I downloaded, installed and tried repairing with HP Print and Scan Doctor

I reinstalled the full printer software from HP's site. I tried everything I could think of.

I was finally able to chat with support.
Here is the solution we found:
1. Uninstall ALL HP software from the computer.

2. Install only the HP Smart app

3. Connect to the printer from the HP Smart app

*Installing the drivers for the printer any other way resulted in the reappearance of the strange blank pages with a single  "   ⌠  " on it.

Hi @Jake_E

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

To better assist you -

1.) What's the application you are trying to print from? Print from another program and check if that helps.

2.) Connect the printer directly to the computer. If your printer is connected to your computer over a network or through a USB hub, connect the printer directly to the computer with a USB cable.

While you respond to that, please try these steps to reset the printer -

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Never mind. The problem is back every time a print fails, the problem is back and it is getting old uninstalling and reinstalling the printer just to get rid of these phantom prints.
