Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP 9018 and wanted to change update options from "auto", but option is greyed out with auto selected on update options. In the settings menu on the printers touch screen the message says that this function has been locked out by the person who set up the computer. I am that person and I did not set that option,  I was also unable to change the option.

Why am I unable to change this setting on the printer.  Why would HP lock the customer out of changing this setting.

For the past 10years I have used HP products and AIO printers.  My  8600 quit and I got this officejet 9018...but this may be going back...this is a deal breaker unless someone can help with this.

Thanks for your reply Shlomil.  I figured this out  - but did it a different way I guess.

I logged into the web service with the printers IP and clicked on the settings tab and the Admin settings.

I didn't have to disable web services, in fact, I left all webservices enables excepting HP instant ink.

I went down to printer updates ...but were 2 options and I am not sure what the difference between them are.  The 2 check box options are  "All Firmware updates" and/or "Only Web-downloaded Firmware updates.

What is the difference?  Wouldn't Firmware updates be downloaded from the web regardless?

Thank you in advance for your insight...Shellb

Hi,

Using Web Services require the latest updates (e.g. HP ePrint, HP Instant Ink, Print apps).

You may select Remove Web Services and disable the feature, then you may control the update settings and disable auto updates for the printer.
