Able to receive fax, but not able to send fax on HP OfficeJet Pro 8720. I've tried downloading the HP Universal Fax Driver, but it says that "This software is already installed." I tried looking for the Universal Fax Driver under "Devices and Printers" and it doesn't show up.
*Update: I was able to find the HP Universal Fax Driver, however when I try to fax something via Adobe Acrobat Pro, an error message pops up: "There is a problem communicating with the printer. Check your network connection and verify that the printer is ready. If you installed this printer by IP address, then you might need to update the IP address. Use the Update IP Address item in the Start menu entry for this printer. If the problem persists, it may be related to your current firewall settings."

Hi @drlauofc,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve the issue of being able to receive but not send faxes on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, here are a few steps you can follow:
Troubleshooting Steps
Check Fax Settings:
- Ensure that the fax settings on your printer are configured correctly.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Fax Setup > Basic Fax Setup and check the settings.
Confirm Fax Line Connection:
- Make sure the phone line is properly connected to the correct port on the printer.
- Verify that you have a dial tone and that the phone line is working.
Verify Fax Send Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Fax > Send Fax Settings and make sure all the settings are correct.
- Check the Dialing Mode (tone or pulse) and make sure it matches your phone line type.
Disable Call Waiting:
- If you have call waiting enabled on your phone line, it can interfere with sending faxes.
- You may need to disable call waiting before sending a fax. Refer to your phone service provider for instructions.
Check for Error Messages:
- Check the printer’s control panel for any error messages related to faxing.
- Follow any on-screen instructions to resolve the errors.
Resolving HP Universal Fax Driver Issues
Update IP Address:
- If you installed the printer by IP address, the IP address may have changed.
- Use the Update IP Address option in the Start menu entry for the printer to update the IP address.
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the network.
- Verify that you can print and scan from the printer to confirm network connectivity.
Firewall Settings:
- Ensure that your firewall settings are not blocking the printer’s communication.
- You may need to add exceptions for the printer in your firewall settings.
Reinstall HP Universal Fax Driver:
- If the driver installation seems incomplete, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Universal Fax Driver.
- Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on the HP Universal Fax Driver, and select Remove device.
- Download the latest version of the driver from the HP Support website and reinstall it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
