HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

When I try to secure access to the network settings with a login in the EWS under Security/Access Control, the setting is not applied to the printer. The user at the printer itself can still access the network settings. This setting worked without any issues on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8730.

Am I possibly overlooking an important setting?

Hi @Thomas0000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To secure access to the network settings using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e, here are some steps and considerations that may help resolve the issue.

Verify Steps for Configuring Access Control:

Ensure Proper Login Credentials:

  • Log into the EWS as an administrator. Ensure you are using the correct admin username and password, as access control settings typically require admin privileges.

Set Up Access Control:

  • Navigate to Security > Access Control in the EWS.
  • Confirm you have set restrictions for the Network Settings specifically.
  • Ensure that the correct user group (e.g., Administrator) is given exclusive permissions for modifying network settings.

Apply and Save Settings:

  • After configuring the settings, click Apply to save changes. Ensure you receive a confirmation that the settings were saved successfully.
  • Restart the printer to ensure the changes take effect.

Check for Overlooked Configurations:

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer is running the latest firmware. Outdated firmware can cause inconsistencies in applying security settings. Visit the HP Support website to check for updates.

Access Control Priority:

  • Confirm whether there is a default rule or override policy that allows open access to network settings. If such a rule exists, modify or disable it to ensure that the access restrictions are applied correctly.

Printer Settings at the Device:

  • Verify directly on the printer whether the access control rules are displayed or enforced. Some printers require enabling Advanced Security features to enforce EWS restrictions fully.

Reset Access Settings:

  • Reset access control settings to default and configure them again to rule out potential misconfigurations.

Test Access:

Access via the Printer Interface:

  • Try accessing the network settings directly from the printer’s control panel after implementing the changes. The system should prompt for login credentials if the settings were applied correctly.

Access from Another User Profile:

  • Test access using a non-administrator profile or as a guest to confirm the restriction is active.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
