HP Officejet Pro 8620

Good afternoon.

I have a similar issue. I just installed Tahoe IOS and have an HP Officejet Pro 8620. The previous app (old HP app) connected fine with the printer but this one does not. I have the app on my iPhone and there it recognizes the printer and works fine. On my computer when I open the app it goes through its startup and then says to enable local network permission for the hp app. That was not a problem, it was open. I uninstalled the printer and the app and then reinstalled both of them. That did not resolve the problem. Again, the app is working fine on my phone but not on the computer. Please advise and thank you.

Hi @KRD54,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The problem you’re facing with the HP App on macOS Tahoe is common after major macOS updates. The app works fine on your iPhone because iOS permissions are simpler, but on macOS, local network permissions and firewall settings often block the HP app from discovering printers.

Here’s how to fix it:

1. Verify Local Network Permission

2. Check Firewall Settings

  • Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall.
  • Click Options and make sure the HP app and HP Device Communication are allowed.
  • If not, add them manually.

3. Enable Bonjour (Required for HP app)

HP printers rely on Bonjour for discovery:

  • Go to System Settings > Network > Advanced > DNS.
  • Ensure Bonjour/mDNS is enabled (usually by default).
  • If you use a third-party firewall or VPN, temporarily disable it.

4. Update HP App and Printer Firmware

5. Use the HP app’s Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the app.
  • Click Printer dropdown > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to resolve connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Good afternoon!

Well, I went through all you said. I got to 5) Use the HP app's Diagnose and Fix. The problem is that the app opens and stops. It says:

So, I can't diagnose and fix. Frustrating yes! To summarize your solution fixes: 1) It was there. 2) My Firewall is disabled so no problem there. 3) The printer shows that Bonjour is active and has recognized the printer 4) I have the latest OS for the MAC: Tahoe. The printer is an air printer so according to Apple it needs no firmware and the link you sent me has none for a MAC. So I successfully navigated 1-4 but I'm dead in the water with 5).

Thoughts? And thank you for taking the time to help figure it out.
