We recently purchased an Amazon Fire 10 notepad to replace my wife's ipad. I have been unsuccessful in getting it to print to our network HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. I have tried a number of different printer interface apps. They all can find our printer but none of them allow us to print to it. They all come up with the message that the printer is not ready at this time. I did get the app Hammer Print to work but it took over 5 minutes to print 2 pages and it did not allow you to print on both sides of the paper. The printer in on our wireless network and I am able to print to it from my computer and we were able to print to it from my wife's ipad. The Amazon Fire 10 notepad is a replacement for the ipad. When I search the app store for a HP printer app, it doesn't allow me to download it, it says it is not available at this time.
Not sure what else I can try.

Hi @Dave4391,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've encountered some challenges with printing from your Amazon Fire 10 tablet to your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
HP Print Service Plugin:
- Make sure the HP Print Service Plugin is installed on your Amazon Fire 10. You can check and install it from the Google Play Store on your tablet.
- Open Settings on your tablet, go to "Printers & scanners," and make sure the HP printer is listed and selected as the default printer.
Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 has the latest firmware installed. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support website.
Restart Devices:
- Sometimes, restarting both the Amazon Fire 10 tablet and the HP printer can help resolve connectivity issues. Turn off both devices, wait a minute, and then turn them back on.
Network Connection:
- Double-check that both your tablet and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Printer Permissions:
- Verify that the permissions for printing are granted to the apps you're using. Go to Settings on your tablet, select "Apps & Notifications," and then check the permissions for the printing apps.
Check Firewall Settings:
- Ensure that there are no firewall or security settings on your router that might be blocking the communication between the tablet and the printer.
Print Spooler:
- Check the print spooler on your tablet. Sometimes clearing the print queue and restarting the print spooler can resolve printing issues.
HP Smart App:
- Try using the HP Smart app, which is designed to work with HP printers. Install the app from the Amazon Appstore and follow the setup instructions.
let's try a network reset:
1. Disconnect the power cord from the router.
2. Turn off the printer.
3. Turn off the mobile device/PC.
4. Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
5. Turn on the printer.
6. Turn on the mobile device/PC.
Once done,
Could you please try these steps to connect the printer to the network (in case of dual-band routers, please use the 2.4 Ghz wireless connection for the printer):
1.) Remove HP Smart App from your mobile device (if already installed).
2.) Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
3.) Download and install HP Smart App on your mobile device from the app store.
4.) Open HP Smart App and follow the onscreen instructions on the screen to connect the printer to a wireless network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel571,
I read through your reply and to download the HP Print Service Plugin or the HP Smart app I first have to download and install the Google Play Store app on the Amazon Fire 10 tablet. To download the Google Play Store app it takes me to the app.popsilla.com/google/play store website. Part of their installation process is a verification step. Part of this Verification step is to supply them with a credit card number. I have a problem with giving out a credit card number to a website from which I plan on downloading an app for free.
Also, part of the instructions is to go into the tablet's setting to allow it to download apps from other than the Amazon appstore. The problem is they don't tell me where in the settings I will find this option. There are a lot of subsets within the tablet's Settings.

I have managed to download the Google Play Store onto the Amazon Fire 10 notepad. I am trying to connect this notepad to our home network printer, an HP Officejet Pro 8600. I have downloaded EVERY HP printer app in an attempt to print anything from this notepad. Each time I try to print something I receive the message that the printer is not available at this time. We have a wireless network in our house. Prior to this Amazon Fire 10 notepad, my wife had an Apple i-pad, which had no problem connecting to this printer. I have no idea as to what to do now. Only recommendation that I get from any apps I download is to reset the default Wi-Fi settings on the printer. I won't do that then I have to reset the Wi-Fi connection with the other devices on the network. With HP Smart, it doesn't list the HP Officejet Pro 8600 as a printer supported by this app. I am lost.
