I set up a new HP M404dw. I used HP easy start method. Printer is successfully installed.
Does it make sense to download the driver to my Mac?
How do I assign different paper sizes to the two drawers? I need to be able to print letter and legal from the same document.
Thank you

On the control panel of the printer you need to set the paper size on the printer itself to letter and legal, that way when a document requests either size the printer knows which paper it has loaded where. Often the default is any size\any type and needs to match so letter plain and legal plain would be the normally expected settings.

I was messing with that last night. Couldn’t seem to get it to change. I will try again. I will let you know. Very helpful so far.
when setting the printer up I used the IOS method from my ipad. Do I need to load the driver to my Mac also?

If you want to print from the MAC yes. Typically the driver install will provide better options than the Smart App. If you go to support.hp.com you can download the user guide which will show you how to work with the control panel.
