HI

I have just replaced old HP printer with new HP OJ7740 wide format. Its used primarily with AutoCad 2016 plots.

However, have noticed that within AutoCad plot preview the image is displayed as greyscale only, with no obvious setting to change this. The drawings print out in colour but without being able to assess the image before printing this is a bit hit & miss.

I have looked at all forums (HP, AutoCad, etc) & can see this is a well known issue. What I cant see however, are any solutions.

I've had plenty of HP printers & plotters previously but have never experienced this issue before now. Its an irritant rather than a catastrophe but I'd like to try and rectify it nonetheless.

Any suggestions or work arounds would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks.

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstalltion to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Hi

Good news & bad sadly.

Firstly it has solved another problem I was experiencing (my PC constantly trying to connect to an old printer that I thought I had completely uninstalled).

Unfortunately though, the AutoCAD plot preview issue has not been resolved with these suggestions (software & firmware re-installation).

I'm totally baffled. I have never experienced this issue with any previous HP printer or plotter. currently using an 8860 (A4 only unfortunately) & a very old 1055 plotter, and don't have this issue on either.

If you can think of anything else to try then let me know. As I say its more irritating than disastrous as the prints do come out fine & in colour, its just the preview that that's greyscale. Puzzling.

You could try using the built-in drivers: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

Let me know if this helps.

Hi

thank you, had tried that already but gave it another shot anyway & I'm afraid that hasn't worked either.

You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the AutoCad software.

Let me know 🙂
