macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Yesterday, an update was installed on my HP Envy 5640. I had no prior warning that an update was available, what the update contained or why the update was necessary. All I saw was the warning on the printer screen - do not turn off the printer.

 

Can you please inform me:

- how this is possible

- how to prevent this in the future.

HP regularly releases new printer firmware versions with product enhancements or issue fixes. Depending on your printer, apps on the printer control panel might also receive updates. Update firmware and apps on a regular basis to make sure you are getting the most out of your printer.

 

You may choose to change the update setting as required to Automatic or Manual.

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Printer maintenance > Update the printer > Change as required.
