Can someone please tell me why I am being charged a monthly fee through HP after buying a new Printer and installing it?

I haven't had to pay a fee like this before when owning an HP Printer and can't understand why I am being charged further from the purchase price.  It did prompt me to download a driver when I was installing, is this the problem and should i have not downloaded this?  Or can the printer not be used without downloading the driver?

thanks

@Trev111, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • How much are you being charged?
  • What is the information you get when charged?

You will not be charged by HP for downloading and using the printer driver. I can only assume that you have enrolled the printer in Instant Ink for which you are being charged.

HP Instant Ink is an ink cartridge replacement service. The plan charges a fee based on the number of pages you print each month. The printer sends ink level information to HP, and when the printer runs low on ink, replacement ink cartridges are shipped to you. You do not need to purchase replacement ink cartridges from retail stores when you are enrolled in HP Instant Ink.

This cannot be done automatically by the printer. The user has to enroll the printer to avail this service.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
