Biggest Problem using HP Printers

Now, I am not sure if this applies to other operating systems or printers. but based on my experience with the HP Smart Tank. 

I if want to do anything but print, such as scan. then I need to use the HP Smart application, and it insists on creating an account and loging in.

So if I am not on the internet, such as in an air Gap office, the thing is useless. since why do I need to give my personal information to a company when I buy a physical piece of equipment? If I buy a car, and don't want the warrantee, I just pay the money. but printers are more of a consumable item. its getting stupid where I buy a product, but can not use it without selling my private data to a company I can not trust. so for personal use, I will look else where, in the office I will continue to struggle until I find a better option.
