Booklet printing

Ì have recently bought the HP 9730e because my hp9720e was limited on automatic duplex printing to A4 paper.

The HP 9730e does duplex with B4 paper which I want to use to produce a 1/2 B4 when folded booklet.

However the hp9730e print driver won't allow a booklet to be printed using B4 paper, it greys out the option in printer set up.

Any suggestions, remedies or workarounds would be appreciated

B4 paper measures 250 x 353 mm or 9.8 x 13.9 inches.

According to the documentation, Duplex is supported three sizes as shown in the Specifications.

Regardless, the B4 paper size is not listed as a supported standard size.

Answer

Create a Custom Size Paper form for your B4 paper.

• Set the Tray and Paper (on the printer) to paper size "Custom" EWS_9135_Tray_and_Paper_11EWS_9135_Print_Default_Print_Options_11

• Create a Custom Paper Size form for your B4 paper.  

• When configuring the job, select the (new) custom paper size from your paper size list.

Newly added custom size forms are typically added to the end of the existing paper size list.

Installing the full driver printer software adds access to the full range of Printing Preferences.

Set the preferred Shortcut in Printing Preferences to "General Everyday Printing".

Set Printer Properties → Tab Advanced → Driver = the installed HP driver and not the IPP / Microsoft driver.

The legacy HP Smart application (Windows) typically installs (and / or offers) an intelligent print queue:  HP Smart Printing.   

"HP Smart Printing" print queue is similar in operation to HP Smart Universal Printing Driver.

HP App (replacement for HP Smart app) supports intelligent print queues.

If the full driver printer software is installed, installed intelligent print queues are supported in Word, Adobe Reader, and similar software / programs.
