It's taken me to a page to MANUALLY Add a printer, but I have no idea what they want fro a "Name", nor do I have a CLUE about an n"Address" that it's asking for....

I have literally just printed my SIXTH COPY of "Wireless Quick Start Guide" in the last 7 months...two pages as usual...which is now a waste of 10 pages and all the ink that was required.

PLEASE HELP!?!

Were you able to install HP Print for chrome?

Is the printer and Chromebook on the same network?

What is the error your receiving when you try and add the printer to the HP Print app?

Let me know!

Hello - I am so very sorry for this extremely late reply...I missed this message in my Inbox and just happened to come across it clearing out old messages.

Q1:  Were you able to install HP Print for chrome?

A1: I am not sure now - is that the same as "HP Print Service Plugin" (which I just pulled up on that machine)? I may have installed HP Print for Chrome a month or two ago when I last attempted to work on this problem - how would I search for it (find it) to be 100% sure on a Chromebook please?

Q2:  Is the printer and Chromebook on the same network?

A2:  Again, I almost feel like I'm playing dumb now, but I don't understand how I would know what network the printer is on.  I know how to find the network the Chromebook is on (on the home Fios Router/Network) but have no clue at all how I would determine if the printer is "on" the same network...?

Q3:  What is the error your receiving when you try and add the printer to the HP Print app?

A3:  And lastly (and yet again) I am stumped...it's been over a month now and I am so lost it's not funny...I'm so "in the middle" of this (in the middle of being lost) that my mind is just all over the place with it.  I used to be a fairly decent follower of instructions on technology, but at 61 now it's leaving me in the dust...i simply cannot keep up, and In swear to GOD it (the tech) is getting more and more complex and complicated, when my mind tells me it SHOULD be just the opposite.  I truly feel like I don't want to be on this earth at times like this when I am so defeated...so lost, so overwhelmed - and worst of all - feeling so alone with it all.  These things should be getting simpler - and just the opposite of that is the truth.  I'm so sorry  ~g

OK! YES!! The Wireless Symbol is lit in blue - so I must be connected to the network, correct?

I HAVE managed to install "HP Smart" on my other machine ( PC running WIN10), but when going through the steps it claims it 'cannot find a printer', even though the laptop I am typing on (and was typing on when I attempted to walk through the steps) is resting on top of the printer - an HP printer that has been ON for an hour-or-so now, AND has the blue WIRELESS SYMBOL (that you graciously posted and highlighted in yellow) is LIT!?!

I cannot believe HP (and all the others I'm sure) are making this SOOOO INCREDIBLY COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT!?! WHY on earth would I EVER purchase another one of their products, as this one cost nearly $150 and I have only been able to use it a couple times!?! Additionally I am certainly not going to report to Friends and Family that my my most recent HP printer experience was anything other than hellish!!!  I don't understand...I simply do NOT get it, why they are doing this, when in the infancy of all this technology I WAS ABLE to do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING I "NEEDED" TO DO IN SETTING UP COMPUTERS, PRINTERS, ETC., ETC.....

Again, I apologize in that it appears I will have to try digging through boxes in the attic for a USB cord to try that method.

Also I just re-read your last post and get very confused whenever the word "app" is used  ("HP Print app") is used ... I thought app's were things installed on mobile phones? 😞

It's 2AM here, I'm needing sleep now...hope to chat soon........ ~g

@grc223,

HP Print for Chrome is an extension that can be installed on the Chromebook.

To print from the Chrome browser, install the HP Print for Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Review these requirements to use HP Print for Chrome.

  • A Chromebook, Mac, or Windows computer connected to the internet

  • An active **bleep** or Google Chrome account

  • The latest version of the Chrome browser: Go to Update Google Chrome (in English) for more information

  1. From the Chrome browser, go to HP Print for Chrome (in English).

  2. Click Add to Chrome, and then follow the instructions to complete the extension setup.

The Print for Chrome window opening after successful installation

Print with HP Print for Chrome

Print documents, images, web pages, and emails from the Chrome browser.

  1. Turn on the printer and make sure it is connected to the same network as the computer or with a USB cable.

  2. From the Chrome browser, open the item you want to print.

  3. Click the Print icon  if available, or click the browser Menu icon , and then select Print.

  4. Select your printer from the Destination menu and change any print job settings as needed.

  5. Click Print.

Hope this helps!

Well, hp Print for Chrome was already installed, and I had to use a USB cable (and had to 'unsafely' eject a wireless mouse "thing" [don't know what it's called], as ACER, in its infinite "wisdom", built this laptop with ONE (ONLY 1??) USB port, and then this sad little printer kicked out (FINALLY!) some paper... six (6!!!?!!! SIX pages to be exact...six pages of wasted ink and paper!!?!!!)  TEST pages (I availed the Web Store screen that offered to "Remove from Chrome" HP print because that was what was in front of me) but it FINALLY printed something.

Sure would be nice to have this "wireless" hp printer print wirelessly though, as that's what it was supposed designed to do -- and one of the reasons I spent extra money (TWICE-PLUS as much - and then some) rather than be connected by a 3' cord/cable/WIRE.

Thanks much for your help (and I may have to come back to this thread if I am never able to figure out how to make it work wirelessly)  ~ Thanks again very much..

I am glad you are able to print using a USB setup.

Follow the steps in the document to connect the printer to the network -- Wireless Printer Setup

Hope this helps!
