I bought a brand new HP 9015e printer from the HP website.  I kept experiencing errors when trying to insert my startup ink cartridges.  I cleaned the ends of the cartridges and now the printer is saying that "new, unused cartridges must be used for startup."  These are my original startup cartridges.  I tried using replacement cartridges, but the printer tells me to use the startup cartridges instead.  I also tried downloading the HP Smart app to finish setup, but that didn't seem to help.  Please either explain how to override this error or let me know how I can send these startup cartridges back for replacements.

Hi @StevenWeston,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for help with setting up your Printer for the first time.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the setup ink cartridges back into the printer and set it up again

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) If the issue still persists, i've sent you a private message with the instructions to override the error with using genuine HP ink cartridges.
