C4280
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I've had a C4280 printer for years and no trouble, it's always been plug and play on every machine. However on my new Win 10 PC, the scanner works and the printer does not. I have followed all of the driver reinstallation guides on these forums, and tried using the install package from HP, but I just get the error in the attached image every time. Any help on how to get my printer working much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Hi @daftmoo ,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

Root Level – printer driver reinstallation:

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Once it is done, Follow this link, and install the full feature driver software. 🙂

Keep me posted,

If the information I’ve provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.  😉

HI Barachiel,

Thank you very much for your response. I have followed all of the steps, and during the installation process after 'software intallation complete' the installation just gets stuck on 'configuring product', eventually giving the 'fatal error during installation' message I linked previously.

Any other tips for trying to get the printer to work? This a new machine it's not been installed on before, running Windows 10 creator.

Many thanks,

James

Hello sandytechy20,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have followed the steps recommended in your post and have followed the steps in both videos. Unfortunately the printer is still not working. When I come to reinstalling it, Windows seems to complete installation when I connect the printer, but it still doesn't show up in devices, it just appears as 'Printer, Scanner, Copier' and says device unavailable. If I click add printer windows finds nothing. If I click properties on the new 'Printer, Scanner Copier', it lists the printer under Hardware and device functions saying device is working properly, but under the events tab it has the following message:

Device USB\VID_03F0&PID_5C11&MI_02\6&34dec49a&8&0002 requires further installation.

Any additional advice much apprecaited!

Many thanks
