Been trying all day and the driver will not install! I uninstalled my old driver (which worked) and downloaded the current driver for this printer, file name PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe, for my PC running Windows 8.1. When I double click the downloaded file it goes through an extraction process and then displays a window asking me what I want to do next. Well I want to install the driver, but it doesn't give me that option. So I click Add a Device and it goes into an endless loop saying it is installing device with no progress bar and no cancel options. I have let it run for 40 minutes with no change and had to kill it in Task Manager. I have tried this multiple times to no avail.
Loading software for a printer shouldn't be this hard. What am I doing wrong?
Tom

Hi,
Find and remove the .dat file using a .dat file remover utility
- Temporarily disable any anti-virus software that might be running on your computer. If you are unsure how to temporarily disable your computer's anti-virus software, contact the company that provides the software.
- Download the HP Installer DAT file utility from the HP website. The Save installdatfileclean.exe dialog box opens.
- Click Run. The utility finds and lists the .dat files that need to be removed.
- Click Delete Files to remove the .dat files.
NOTE:
If no files are found, the notification "Cleanup completed. Please install your printer software again" displays. - Re-enable your computer's anti-virus software.
- Restart your PC
- Turn on the printer.
- If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
- If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.
- Click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.

I spoke too soon. This fix worked on my computer running Windows 8.1, but now we can't install it on my wife's computer running Windows 7, 64 bit.
We downloaded the correct driver software for her computer, PS_AIO_02_NET_FULL_WIN_WW_130_140.exe and it did not install, so we ran the HP Installer DAT Utility you recommended above and it deleted one dat file. After this, the installation went forward for a wireless connection up to the Configuring Device stage, where it failed after about 15 minutes of trying with a Fatal Error.
We received an HP Installation Failure 28.hta file and tried to run it, but got a message that it is not a valid Win32 application??
Can you help us get this computer to run the printer on our wireless network?
Thanks,
Tom

My printer stopped working and I uninstalled the software. I have Windows 7 home edition, using the driver for Photosmart C7280 All-in-one (PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140). When trying to reinstall, I continue to get the "Fatal error during Installation" message. Basically, I go through, and the first time it will find my printer on the network, and connect, then "hang" on the "Configuring product" step. After that, it never finds the device on the network again, even if I uninstall and reinstall. HP software even downloaded a fix, during the software uninstall step, but that didn't work either.
I have searched the knowledgebase, and tried several fixes. Nothing works. Can you please help? Thanks!
