The software Scantopcacitivationapp is constantly running on my computer and is using ~1gb of my ram constantly, even with my printer not being in use. I still use my printer to scan papers but not all the time. So if i were to close it, would the scanner still work or would I need to reopen the software every time I would need to scan something?

Yes, you can kill the process.

It will likely come back unless you disable the process in the Task Manager Startup menu.

Notes

Method – Disable/ Enable  ScanToPCActivationApp Process in Startup (Windows 10)

ScanToPCActivationApp requires that the Full Feature Software / Full Driver be installed.

The ScanToPCActivationApp process to scan from printer to the computer must have permission from Windows.

The process must be enabled to be used.

This permission and control is provided using  ScanToPCActivationApp

Find running Process(es)

  • Right-Click an empty area of the Taskbar and select Task Manager
  • In the Task Manager window, click on 'More details' near the bottom left
  • Select tab Start-up

If you have more than one printer,

If the process is listed,

If there are multiple ScanToPCActivationApp processes listed:

Check listing(s)

  • Right-Click the first entry ScanToPCActivationApp  > Properties
  • Tab General > Note the information in section Location (includes the model of the printer)
  • Click Cancel to close the menu

Disable one or more process(es)

  • Right-Click the entry ScanToPCActivationApp > Select to Disable / Enable the process
  • Close Task Manager (and other programs)
  • Restart the notebook and log in

Optional

Create “Scan to Computer” ScanToPCActivationApp Shortcut

Right-Click on Desktop > New > shortcut

Target / Path:

"C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer>\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" –deviceID Printer Serial Number:NW -scfn "Printer (NET)"

Example:

"C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8630\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" –deviceID CN316EK14D:NW -scfn "HP Officejet Pro 8630 (NET)"

Double-click / Run shortcut > Enable > OK
