Answer:

1) Yes.

What is the file type of your content?

For example, are you trying to create a poster print of a PDF file or a .JPG file?

2) What software are you trying to use for the task?  What is the "it" to which you refer?

Edits - Add solution based on "best guess"...

One fairly painless method:

Create Word document > Insert photo > Save and Print as PDF

Open Word > Open / Create a blank document.

In Layout, set the Page size to the largest paper size your printer supports (standard paper size for your region)

In Layout, set the Orientation to Landscape

In Layout, set the Margins to the smallest supported by the printer (see your printer's Specifications or the printer's driver)

Insert (not copy/paste) the image file into the document

Adjust the location and size to the maximum allowed by the margins, page size, and orientation

Save the file so you have a copy of the data

Next, use Save-As > save the file as a PDF file

Irfanview - Photo Editing / Printing / Managing Software

The following is completely optional - works - and is free.

The setup may take some work - you need to make some decisions along the way - and the "plugins" to complete this task must be installed after the main software.

Irfanview > Free

Irfanview provides a free program that can be used for a variety of scan and print tasks, including the “Mirror” or horizontal flip function.

  • Create a Restore Point (optional, recommended)
  • Download the appropriate version (32bit or 64bit) of the program from the Website and install the program
  • Additional information at the website, including:  FAQ

Once installed, open the software > tab Help

Example help entry:

Vertical/Horizontal Flip

  • Click on the Image Menu, then Vertical Flip. The image will turn upside-down. The left/right orientation will stay the same.
  • Click on the Image Menu, then Horizontal Flip. The image will turn side-to-side, as in a mirror.

Note: The effect can be used on a smaller portion (rectangle selection) of an image, as well as the entire image.

NOTES

Both 32bit and 64bit versions are available.

For example,

Irfanview 64bit version – Information and Download

Software and All Plugins for 64bit version:  https://www.fosshub.com/IrfanView.html

Includes Plugin for creating Multiple-page PDF files for images (Poster or large paper printing)

Download and Install the main Irfanview software

If you have opened the software to use / view it, close the software

Download and Install the Plugin package

Open Irfanview

Options > Multipage Images > Create Multipage PDF (Plugin)

Find and add your downloaded / saved image file (.jpg)

If desired, change / edit the destination folder

Click to create the PDF file

Example

NOTE:  Optionally, change the Destination folder and name of file.

Print the PDF file using Adobe Reader DC

====================================================================

Adobe Reader DC - Print PDF - Poster

Open the new PDF file in Adobe Reader DC

Click the Print icon

In Page Size and Handling > Select "Poster"

Adjust the Tile Scale (normally 100%) and the Overlap settings

Check the Properties box (top center of the menu) to make sure you are using the type and size of paper you expect / want.

For example, to print on your "everyday" paper, select a shortcut for "Everyday printing" - no duplex.

Reminder:

This type of print is not going to be borderless even if your printer normally supports borderless printing.

Example

---------------------------- Original Content ---------------------------------------------

OK.

Still lost...

I am still not clear on what you are doing where you expect to see a "2x2" menu?

Which software are you using to print the file?

That is, how are you submitting the job?

Where are you seeing a "Printing menu"??

OR

If you like, we can ignore the software you are using now and move directly to a solution.

@marty74

I have provided a solution that should work.  See my updated (previous) post.

What about...

The Officejet Pro 8500 driver option?

You can install the alternate driver using "Add a Printer" if you like and see if it works for you.

I do not know that the 8500 driver is compatible with your Wide format printer.

Because I don't know that it will work, I am not recommending the "Add a Printer" method.

I am providing it "FYI".

Example – Add a Printer

Reminders:

  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, disconnect the cable before you start the procedure.  Connect the cable only when instructed or after the drivers are installed (at the “Finish”).
  • If a “USB port” option is not listed as available, select the LPT port.  Connect the cable after the procedure is completed, (and if necessary) Restart the computer and log in

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer

Click The printer that I want isn’t listed

Click Add a Local or Network Printer with manual settings

Click Next

Choose Printer Port

  1. Select Use an existing port
  2. Select first LPT port in list or for USB select (if available in list) USB port

OR (if having connection / OS WSD issues)

ShlomiL – Thread:  Add printer port)

  1. Select Create a new port
  2. Select Drop-down Menu Type of Port
  3. TCP/IP Port > Enter the IP Address, Enter a name for the port

Install the Printer

  1. Left column:  HP
  2. Right column: Scroll, search, select (click) printer

If Printer is not found in list:

  1. Click Windows Updates
  2. Wait several minutes for list to update
  3. Left column:  HP
  4. Right column:  Scroll, search, select printer

(Repeat if Necessary) Choose Printer Port

  1. Select Use an existing port
  2. Select first LPT port in list or for USB select (if available in list) USB port

OR (if having connection / OS WSD issues)

(Contributed by ShlomiL – Thread:  Add printer port)

  1. Select Create a new port
  2. Select Drop-down Menu Type of Port
  3. TCP/IP Port > Enter the IP Address, Enter a name for the port

Click Yes to “…allow this app to make changes to your device” (UAC)

Optional: Type a printer Name or use the default

Next > Wait for printer software to install …

Next >

Click Share this printer so that others on your network can find and use it

Optional:  Fill in information for printer location and a comment

Optional:  Click Set as the default printer

Optional:  Click to Print a test page > Finish

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

Poster Printing was provided with the driver for older HP printers and such a feature is no longer provided with later HP printers for some years.

You may set an alternate driver as suggested by @Dragon-Fur indeed, however, the HP Officejet Pro K850 should be a better fit, as the Officejet 8500 model won't provide you A3 sizes as your printer support.

From this driver you may select Poster Printing within the Finishing tab:

Ha!  The HP Officejet Pro K850  is the "example" I had in my original text that I used for the Add-a-printer how-to.

Just wasn't sure whether it would do the trick for the 7720.

So, two solutions, then.

That said, if you have not used Irfanview software, do try to get some time to take a look at it.  Marvelous stuff.  Smiling.
