Hi,
Apologies for jumping in.
An HP Envy 5540 printer does support border-less printing, up to A4 paper size, you may find its specifications attached:
Be aware that border-less printing is supported on Photo Paper only, if you use a Plain Paper you indeed have a minimum margin of 3mm around.
When you load supported Photo Paper (220 to 300 GSM wight) and closing the door, be sure to follow the prompt on screen and change the photo type setting of the printer, you must use Photo Paper for such, only thicker media can be used for such.
Also make sure to set the driver settings on the computer accordingly with the used Paper Type setting and also set the print job for Border-less printing:
