OK understood.  One more question, if you don't mind... my group has raised concerns that we talk about a "network" printer, however we are not on a network.  We are essentially a stand-alone set-up.  They mentioned that these printers really work on networks and they are concerned that these set-up instructions are only related to network setups.  Can you confirm that we can manage the security in the same way as described, regardless of whether we are on a network??  All the terminology sounds similar and of course there is a lot of input because it's so hard to get information, which is consistent with your HP contact discussions.  I am truly appreciative of all the info you have provided to date!

You need to clarify one thing. How do you intend to connect the printer to your computer? If you are using USB, then you may face issues configuring as that is all done through the embedded web server (EWS) on the printer. Connection usually happens in one of three ways. USB, wired ethernet or wireless, including WIFI direct. Wireless or Wired networking is preferred as it is the easiest way to restrict users.
