My school was donated two printers. Both of them are HP OfficeJet 9020's. Both of them won't connect to the network. The ethernet is not lighting up when I connect it to the network. The only method of communication to this printer is via a USB cable. The LED display does not show anything network or WiFi related. Nothing for network or WiFi is listed in the Setup menu. In addition to that, when I go to the Printer Maintenance screen, factory reset is not available. Is it possible that the previous administrator locked down these printer so that these settings cannot be accessed? If so, is there any remedy to this?

After spending a lot of time researching my problem, I finally found a solution. Apparently, there is a hidden (backdoor) method of to conduct a "Semi-full reset". You can do it by pressing the part of the screen where the back button would be lit up. It only lights up on certain screens, but if you are on the Home Screen of the printer's LED, you can press this unlit part four times. When you do, it will take you to the Support screen. From there, you can go to the Resets screen and choose "Semi-full reset". After you do that, you can then re-set up your printer. You can also choose to do a "Factory Defaults" reset.

Hi @mcstntech,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with connecting your Printer to the network.
Please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again as the router or the service provider has changed.
1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.
3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
